It was in Delhi that he stumbled upon an abandoned Thara in Daryaganj, which would eventually become the birthplace of his iconic restaurant, Moti Mahal.

With an inner voice guiding him, Kundan Lal sensed that this was the spot where he could not only rehabilitate himself but also share his culinary expertise with the world. And so, Moti Mahal was born, contributing significantly to putting India on the global food map.

The restaurant soon became a hub for world leaders and celebrities, with notable visitors including Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and former US President Nixon. Kundan Lal's innovations, particularly his Tandoori delicacies, left a lasting impression on his guests.

Years later, Kundan Lal's son, Nand Lal Gujral, expanded the Moti Mahal chain to south Delhi, establishing a new branch of restaurants.
