The pious bond binding two souls

Goddess Parvati was Shiva’s wife named Sati in a past life, according to folklore, but she committed herself after Shiva was humiliated by her father. She dives into the fire to commit suicide. In her next life, she is born as the daughter of King Himavath and tries to seduce Shiva with her beauty.

Lord Shiva rejects her request, and all of her efforts are for naught. As a result, Parvati undertakes a severe penance in Gowri Kund, and when Shiva heard about it, he rushed to verify it. He decided to put Parvati to a last test after being impressed by her meditation. Shiva approached Parvati after becoming into a youthful ascetic.

“Dear woman, I’ve been watching you for a few days now,” he added. I’ve never seen a penance like this, when the individual refuses to eat, drink, or even look at the people that come to meet them. I’m curious as to what could have prompted a lovely person like you to do such a thing to her!”

“Love,” Parvati answered, smiling. I do it for the joy of it. I’ve always adored Lord Shiva and will continue to do penance until he accepts me as his wife.”
“Shiva?” exclaimed the young man, taken aback. “Who is the wild wanderer without a home, who wanders about graveyards virtually naked?”
“Yes, the Shiva who is the master of the three worlds,” Sati responded, enraged by the young man’s ridicule. That Shiva, who can’t be comprehended by such feeble intellect as yours!” She marched away after screaming the final four syllables.

Shiva came in front of her, his eyes moist and a small smile on his lips. “Parvati, please forgive me!” I had no idea you were my Shakti, my Sati, albeit in a different form and under a different name. I’m sorry you’ve had to go through so much sorrow in this and past lives as a result of my actions.”
Parvati began to cry as well, and she clutched Shiva tightly. Parvati looked away nervously, realizing what she had just done, and told Shiva that he would have to ask her father for her hand! Shiva and Parvati wedded after a week. Shiva arrived at his wedding on his

bull, decked out in skull and bone jewellery.
His appearance changed as soon as he walked upon the stage. ‘Chandrasekhara’ was the name given to Shiva’s gorgeous clothing.

He was now dressed in a glistening bridal robe with gold embellishments and a delectable scent. Parvati looked stunning in her wedding gown and beaming with joy. All of the gods and goddesses, including Lord Vishnu himself, were present at the wedding. Vishnu gave Parvati to Shiva as his bride, according to the puranas. Shiva danced gleefully after the pheras and enthralled the audience with his magnificent performance.

And thus is how the first ever marriage occurred, setting the way for the creation of the world and many ‘gathbandhans’ (holy knots) across the universe, which are the essence of pious relationships that last forever.
