He was, nonetheless, a tremendously ambitious man. Vishnu was urged by some of the Gods to check King Bali’s power. Vishnu arrived on Earth as a Vamana (dwarf) clothed as a priest. When the dwarf approached King Bali, he said to him, “You are the monarch of the three worlds: the Earth, the World Above, and the World Below. Would you mind giving me the area that three strides would cover?” King Bali burst out laughing. The King, who agreed to the dwarf’s request, reasoned that a dwarf couldn’t possibly cover much ground. The dwarf transformed into Vishnu at this point, and his three strides spanned the Earth, the Sky, and all in between. King Bali was relegated to the hereafter. Some Hindus recall King Bali during Diwali celebrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/selectvenue.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/History-of-Diwali6-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3957\" srcset=\"https:\/\/selectvenue.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/History-of-Diwali6-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/selectvenue.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/History-of-Diwali6-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/selectvenue.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/History-of-Diwali6-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/selectvenue.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/History-of-Diwali6-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/selectvenue.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/History-of-Diwali6-107x60.jpg 107w, https:\/\/selectvenue.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/History-of-Diwali6-840x473.jpg 840w, https:\/\/selectvenue.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/History-of-Diwali6.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Legends abound throughout Diwali’s past, and these legends are based on stories from Hindu sacred literature, namely the Puranas.
