Goddess kali is believed to be the killer of ‘Kal’, Kal is referred to as demons, kali is the destroyer of Kal( demons). she protects her child as a mother protects and takes care of her child from the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Goddess kali is the form of goddess Durga, goddess kali took birth to kill the demons of the earth. goddess kali is worshiped in all regions of India but specifically, it is more celebrated in Bengal. Kolkata is known for the enthusiastic and joyful celebration of kali pooja which is worshiping goddess kali because it is believed that the goddess will kill all evil forces in their life.
Even the city name ‘Kolkata came from kali, as it is believed that the goddess kali was originated in Bengal. even the biggest temple of kali is also situated in Bengal i.e, Shri kali dakshineswar temple. This also proves that Bengal has a special connection and belief in the goddess kali.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shri kali dakshineswar temple is located near the banks of the river ‘Hooghly River’, This temple is one of 51 Shaktipeeth. According to a story, the goddess Sati was the daughter of Daksha, Sati was the favorite child of Daksha but she married Shiva against her father’s wishes. After Daksha humiliated her, Sati killed herself to protest against him, and uphold the honor of her husband. Lord Shiva got angry and went into sadness, but then lord Vishnu to protect shiva from this situation, Vishnu divided Sati’s body part into 51 parts, Goddess Sati’s foot fingers fell in Bengal which leads the formation of kali shaktipeeth. The place at which Sati’s foot finger fell, that place than in 1885 was called as Shri kali dakshineswar temple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To celebrate Goodess kali the festival of kali pooja is made, in kali pooja, the statue of kali is set in different Pandals, people celebrate it with enthusiasm and joy in Kolkata, the pandal is decorated in very different types. At midnight on the day of Diwali pooja, the goddess kali is worshiped, his festival is marked by chanting mantras during nighttime which goes up till dawn. People offer sweets, Hibiscus flowers, rice, and lentils to goddess kali, although animal sacrifices are also made at a few places, now has been greatly reduced. The festival is celebrated when the rest of the country celebrates Diwali. There are different types of pandals in kali pooja, many small or big, beautiful pandals, in which kali’s different forms of statues are placed. Houses are lit with fairy lights, Diya’s, and candles. And people worship the goddess to protect themselves from evil forces in hope that kali will destroy all the demons on earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
